Membership FAQ

Q: Your subscription amounts are in sterling (GBP). How will I be charged in my local currency?
A: Our payment provider, Stripe, will make the conversion at their current exchange rate which is close to the current mid-market rate.

Q: Can I cancel my membership at any time?
A: Yes. Either email us at membership@i4is.org or go to Settings from the Members Area home page and click on "Cancel Membership". We won't press you to rejoin but it would be helpful if you tell us why you are cancelling. When you cancel you will lose access to your membership benefits at the end of your current billing period. Alternatively, you can email us and request an immediate deletion of your account.

Q: I am no longer a Student / I am now 65. How do I change my membership plan?
A: You can update your membership plan by logging into the Members Area home page and going to Settings. On the settings page, click on "Change Membership Plan", and then complete the form, selecting the plan you would like to switch to. Your new plan will commence (and you will then be charged) when you reach the end of your current billing period. You can find the date your current billing period ends on the Settings page. Note: If your current membership plan has already expired following a cancellation request, you will need to click the link to "Restart Membership" instead. If you have any questions or encounter any difficulties please email us at membership@i4is.org.

Q: My credit/debit card has expired. Where can I update my billing details?
A: You can update your card details by logging into the Members Area home page and going to Settings. On the settings page, complete the "Update Billing Method" form with your new card details. Note: If your current membership plan has already expired due to too many failed attempts to charge your expired card, you will need to click the link to "Restart Membership" instead. If you have any questions please email us at membership@i4is.org.

Q: How does i4is use my membership contribution?
A: Members contributions go toward things such as projects and programmes and the inevitable business overheads such as hosting this website, software licences, fees etc. Members receive an annual report each year including our finances based upon our annual returns to the UK and US company regulators.

Q: How do I know I am logged in and how do I know I am seeing members-only pages?
A: Your name will appear at the top right below the banner graphic.

What’s up with 1998 KY26?

1 June 2026

Adam Hibberd I’m not sure whether you might already be aware of this but there are really weird objects orbiting the Sun which astronomers have observed and tried to categorize as a new class of object, ‘the dark comets’. But what makes them weird? It’s the rather strange fact that the peculiar orbital paths they […]

Mission to an Interstellar Object

5 May 2026

Adam Hibberd Many readers in-the-know will have heard of the future ESA ‘Comet Interceptor’ mission, due to launch in 2029. For those not-in-the-know it is a spacecraft desgined to loiter at the famous Sun/Earth Lagrange 2 (L2) point for a few years, waiting for a ‘pristine’ Oort Cloud comet to come flying in to the […]

Mission to an Interstellar Object

Donate

The Initiative for Interstellar Studies is entirely dependent upon the goodwill of its volunteer teams, the minor amounts we receive from our activities and the sale of our merchandise but also the kindness of donors. In order to advance our mission of achieving interstellar flight over the next century, we need your help and support. If you are feeling generous we would very much appreciate your help in moving our mission forward. Make a donation » about Donate
