Adrian Mann

Adrian Mann is an artist and graphical illustrator, who specialises in engineering hardware.

Adrian Mann is well known to many, and is the equivalent of the modern day Chesley Bonestell or Ralph Smith. His space art work has astounded many a Starship pioneer and stands out as the best there is. He has worked on brining many starship designs to the publics interest including Project Orion, Project Daedalus, the Bussard Interstellar Ramjet, to name a few examples. His work has appeared in many magazine publications including ‘All About Space’, ‘Spaceflight’, ‘Focus’, to name a few.

Adrian also brings an extensive business background and experience with him, having worked for many companies at one point or another, including Rolls-Royce, BAe Systems, CAA and Reaction Engines.

Adrian Mann is originally from Birmingham in the UK and he now lives in the depths of rural Hungary with his wife, cats, dog, geese and a random selection of poultry. When he is not just avoiding the maddest wildlife in Europe which usually finds its way into the house, he spends his time creating some of the most amazing art work ever produced by a modern graphical illustrator.

Described by some as a ‘Graphical Engineer’, Adrian creates realistic and credible concepts for all sorts of aerospace vehicles, including Starships. His work has gradually become popularised in recent years as he has become involved with many organizations including The British Interplanetary Society, Icarus Interstellar, Reaction Engines, Stellar Engines and now the Initiative for Interstellar Studies, to name a few.

He is a technical designer and illustrator of engineering animations and he has comprehensive experience working for significant design agencies in the UK. His work includes a wide variety of book and magazine illustration projects. His models of the BIS Daedalus Starship are the most accurate ever produced and he has helped to revive interest in the only Starship design in history ever produced.

One BIS scientist recently described Adrian as the equivalent of the modern day Ralph Smith, with his superb artwork helping to communicate the visions of space flight and by that act helping to bring about its fruition. His personal web site is: www.bisbos.com.

Mission to an Interstellar Object

5 May 2026

Adam Hibberd Many readers in-the-know will have heard of the future ESA ‘Comet Interceptor’ mission, due to launch in 2029. For those not-in-the-know it is a spacecraft desgined to loiter at the famous Sun/Earth Lagrange 2 (L2) point for a few years, waiting for a ‘pristine’ Oort Cloud comet to come flying in to the […]

The Initiative for Interstellar Studies is entirely dependent upon the goodwill of its volunteer teams, the minor amounts we receive from our activities and the sale of our merchandise but also the kindness of donors.
